01 — Context

Farm-fresh meat, delivered on Fridays

West Side Beef Co. has been in business since 2010, and it's proudly based in Hamilton, Ontario. What started as a simple request for restaurant-quality beef at home grew into a farm-to-door business built on ethical farming, whole-animal butchery and freshness. The team works directly with farmers who raise hormone-free, antibiotic-free meat, then delivers it every Friday in insulated boxes, from Hamilton to the GTA and beyond.

Online, customers need to shop cuts or start a subscription, check whether West Side delivers to their street, and understand where their food comes from. West Side asked us to design and build an e-commerce website to do all three.

02 — Design

A butcher shop with a farmhouse feel

The brand already had a strong ribbon logo in navy and red, so we built the site around it: a soft, slightly worn slab serif for headlines, clean sans-serif body copy, a warm paper texture and plenty of real farm photography. Polaroid-style photos, red label tags and a handwritten ledger in the background give it the feel of a family business without tipping into kitsch.

The homepage tells the story in the order a new customer needs it: who West Side is, what's in the shop, which farms they work with, how ordering works and where they deliver. It's storytelling that sells, one scroll at a time.

03 — The shop

Order once, or every week

Customers can shop à la carte or build a subscription. Every product page lets you choose a pack size, pick a one-time purchase or subscribe for regular delivery, and add to cart in a couple of taps. Product cards show subscribe-and-save pricing up front, with clear new, sale and out-of-stock labels.

Recipes sit alongside the shop, with step-by-step instructions and ingredient lists that point back to West Side products, from weeknight pasta to braised short ribs. It gives people a reason to come back between orders.

04 — Delivery

Do you deliver to me?

For a delivery business, that's the first question every visitor has, so we gave it its own tool. Enter a postal code and the Delivery Regions page tells you straight away whether West Side delivers to your area, what shipping costs at each cart total, and that orders over a set amount ship free. Anyone close by can pick up for free at the Hamilton location instead.

Below the checker, all 39 delivery areas are listed, from Acton and Barrie to Whitby and Whitchurch-Stouffville, so nobody has to guess. The homepage repeats the promise with a simple map and a "check your delivery zone" button. Small decisions like this are what move people from click to customer.

05 — The family

And a sister site: The Packing House

West Side's partners include Fenwood Farm, Tanjo Family Farm, Beverly Creek Farms and The Packing House, a family-owned wholesale butcher in Hamilton led by founder Jeremy Losier. The Packing House supplies restaurants, grocery stores, butcher shops and caterers across southern Ontario, and it needed a website of its own.

We designed it as a moody, editorial one-pager: an indigo sidebar, a refined serif, in-house photography of dry-aged beef, a full list of wholesale services and an introduction to Jeremy. It's a different audience from West Side's home cooks, so it gets a different voice, while the two sites sit comfortably side by side.
