01 — Context

A leave-behind for a union millwright company

Lucky Dog Construction Inc. is a union millwright and pipe processing company in California. Its crews install, dismantle, repair, reassemble and move heavy machinery in factories, power plants, water treatment facilities, airports, wineries and technology companies. It is work that requires precision, and the people who hire it are plant managers and project leads who need to trust the team before it ever sets foot on site.

We had already designed Lucky Dog's pitch presentation. The next need was construction sell sheet design: a printed piece the team could leave behind after each pitch, so prospective clients had something in hand that matched what they had just seen on screen.

The brief for this piece of marketing collateral was simple. Cover who Lucky Dog is, what it does and who it does it for, on a single sheet, in a way that looks like the same company as the presentation.

02 — The sell sheet

Two sides, two jobs

We split the content across a front and back so each side does one job. The front introduces the team. The back proves its capabilities.

The front opens with Lucky Dog's illustrated dog logo, a bold "Our Team, Your Partners" headline and a short story about partnership, safety and attention to detail. The company's own line, "keep you out of the dog house," stays in, because it is memorable and it is theirs. Below, a white panel titled Solutions for Diverse Industries with Demanding Expectations shows ten sectors in a photo grid: marine and waterfront, airport baggage screening and conveyers, industry processing equipment, food and beverages, technology, automotive manufacturing, pulp and paper, steam generation, power generation, and water and waste treatment.

The back leads with credentials, including the company's Better Business Bureau A+ rating and its 2018 Best Mechanical Contractor in Fremont, CA award. Then comes Our Services: millwright services, rigging and heavy machine moving, process piping, material handling equipment, structural steel fabrication, welding and carpentry, each with a photo and a short list of what is included. A contact block with the website, email and phone closes the sheet.

A textured charcoal background fading into deep blue gives the piece an industrial weight, and the website runs vertically up the side of the front in large blue capitals so it is impossible to miss.

03 — The presentation

One story, on screen and on paper

The sell sheet was designed as a companion to Lucky Dog's pitch presentation, so the two share a visual language. The deck opens on a black and white photo of machinery with the dog logo and the tagline "Keeping our customers out of the dog house." Slides use the same deep blue gradients, bold sans serif headlines and real jobsite photography of crews in hard hats.

The presentation covers the company's mission, its family-owned history and its founder's background, then moves into a Quality Craftmanship Commitment slide and section dividers for each service. The industry grid on the sell sheet comes straight from the deck, where the same ten sectors appear as photo tiles.

Reusing that structure was deliberate. When a prospect looks at the sell sheet a week later, they recognize the content they heard in the meeting, which makes the follow-up conversation easier.

04 — Why it matters

Why a matching leave-behind works for contractors

For construction and engineering firms, the pitch is often just the start. Decisions get made later, by people who may not have been in the room. A well-built print leave-behind carries the pitch to them, in the same voice and with the same facts.

Keeping the sell sheet and presentation consistent also saves the client time. Lucky Dog now has a library of imagery, layouts and service descriptions it can reuse across both. We have taken a similar approach to sell sheets for HDCS and to the one-page flyer we designed for Quadrillion Partners.
