Case study · Kohltech Windows & Entrance Systems
Kohltech
A premium, inspiration-led website for Kohltech Windows & Entrance Systems, the Nova Scotia window and door manufacturer, with deep product and technical pages.

01 — Context
Built for Atlantic weather, sold coast to coast
Kohltech Windows & Entrance Systems designs and manufactures energy-efficient windows and doors. Founded by Peter Kohler as Kohler Windows, it's headquartered in Debert, Nova Scotia, with manufacturing in Debert and Edmonton, and sells through a network of independent dealers across Canada and the northeastern United States.
Its products are engineered for snow, wind and rain, and the old website showed it: specs, ratings and part numbers everywhere, with very little to make a homeowner fall in love with a window. Kohltech asked us to design a site that sells the experience first and backs it up with all the technical detail builders and dealers need.

02 — Design
Let the homes do the selling
The new design starts with real Kohltech homes, photographed big. An elegant condensed serif sets the tone ("Windows & doors built to perform.") while a clean sans handles the details, and Kohltech blue is saved for the actions that matter: Find a dealer, the menu and links.
A warm off-white background keeps everything calm and premium, closer to an architecture magazine than a parts catalogue. Homeowners can browse recent projects, explore signature collections and read what other homeowners say, then go straight to a dealer. It's a good example of designing for your audience: inspiration first, data close behind.

03 — Product pages
Every option, beautifully organized
Kohltech's catalogue is deep: casement, awning, tilt-and-turn, hung and glider windows, and entrance, garden and patio doors in dozens of configurations. We designed more than 20 product pages on one flexible template.
Each opens with a lifestyle photo and a plain-language promise ("Our best performing windows against snow, wind and rain"), then lets people dig in through tidy expandable panels: product families with NAFS ratings, colour options, glass packages, tints, obscure glass, grilles, exterior trim and hardware. Builders get the specs; homeowners get to see their choices.

04 — Choosing
Helping people see the difference
Most people can't picture the difference between Rain and Pinhead obscure glass, or a 5/8" flat colonial grille and a 1" grooved Georgian. So we showed them. Colours appear as clean swatches with their Canadian names, from Muskoka Moss to Hudson Bay Blue. Tints and obscure glass are shown with the same vase of tulips behind each sample, and every grille option has its own photo.
Consistent, side-by-side visuals turn a technical decision into an easy one, which is the whole point of good visual hierarchy.

05 — Technical
Passive House, NAFS and every cross section
Kohltech's engineering is a real advantage, so the site makes room for it. A Passive House page explains the standard and lists every certified window and door with its options and PHIUS labels. Kohltech is one of only two manufacturers in Canada with Passive House certified door products, and the page says so clearly.
There are dedicated pages for NAFS, ratings, performance and building codes, plus a resources library with brochures, videos, installation instructions, warranty and maintenance guides. The Cross Sections page organizes a long library of downloadable AutoCAD drawings by product line, so architects and builders can find exactly what they need.

06 — The result
A catalogue that feels like a showroom
Kohltech now has a website as well made as its windows: more than 40 page designs that lead with beautiful homes, guide people through real choices and finish with a dealer search on every page. The technical depth is all still there, just organized so the right person finds it.
