01 — Context

Construction company website design for Northern Ontario

WB Melback Corporation is a construction company based in New Liskeard, Ontario. Its work is big, physical and visual: excavation, heavy equipment, cranes and job sites. The company wanted a website that showed that work properly and said far more about what it does.

The team came to us for a new web presence. They wanted something more modern, with a lot more detail than before: room to explain their services, show recent projects, introduce the company and recruit new people. We took on the construction company website design, creating page templates for Home, About, Services, Career Opportunities and Contact.

02 — Visual direction

Heavy machinery, refined type

Construction websites often go loud: hard hats, hazard stripes and shouting headlines. We went the other way. Each page opens on a dark, full-width photograph of cranes or equipment, with a high-contrast serif headline set in white. The serif gives the brand a sense of permanence and professionalism; the photography supplies the grit.

Underneath, the palette is drawn from the company itself. Bronze eyebrows and short divider rules echo the warm tones of the WB Melback logo, a slate blue carries buttons, icons and card footers, and a light grey canvas keeps long pages from feeling heavy. Body copy is set in a clean geometric sans serif for easy reading on any screen.

White content cards overlap the edges of photographs throughout the site. It is a small layout move, but it creates depth and gives every page the same recognizable rhythm.

03 — Page structure

Much more detail, without the clutter

The client's biggest request was detail, so the structure had to hold a lot of content while staying easy to scan. The homepage introduces three company values on cards that overlap the hero, followed by a section on the company's track record and a six-item What we do best grid, each with a slate blue icon.

The Services page opens with three numbered points over an excavation photograph, then a six-tile Areas of Expertise grid. Each tile pairs a real job-site photo, from cranes to crews in hi-vis, with a title and short description, so visitors can find their type of project quickly.

The About page tells the company story and leads into a Recent Work section. Large project photographs carry overlapping case cards with Read More buttons, giving WB Melback a place to show completed jobs as the portfolio grows.

04 — Outcome

A site that hires as well as it sells

For a construction company, a website has two audiences: clients looking for a contractor and tradespeople looking for work. The Career Opportunities page speaks directly to the second, with a Work with us at WB Melback headline and a grid of position cards, each with its own Read More link. The footer keeps the phone number large and the New Liskeard address close at hand on every page.

The result is a website design that gives WB Melback the room it asked for, in a structure that can grow with new services, projects and openings.
